Angels without wings ball
Just wanted to share how much of an honour it was to have had the opportunity to do our bit in support of the Angels Without Wings 2015 ball, in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Brain Tumour Research – and all inspired through one very brave young man’s personal and very humbling journey (Finlay’s Journey), along with his incredible family and a significant army of good-hearted volunteers. Our part was small – simply to supply mood lighting, a few mobile disco lights, along with PA and background music.
The Bordesley Park wedding venue was full to capacity, with well over 240 guests for a black-tie charity ball, complete with charity auction, close-up magicians and the Sole Destroyers tribute band towards the end of the evening. Fin’s Dad delivered an incredibly emotional speech and was supported in his very difficult task with a tearful standing ovation and Finlay’s journey was further told through a moving video account. Like so many other parents, I wonder if I could ever handle such a situation with so much strength and dignity. This family, despite the gravity of what they are living through, have found the strength to create hope through their situation – to be strong, positive and with their focus on what good can come of their journey together.
And looking around the many faces at Bordesley Park, it’s plain to see not only the love and support, but also how their humility is so inspiring to others (myself included). I’m reminded of one of my own favourite sayings – “It matters less what happens to you in life, than how you choose to respond”. And this families response is incredible. Just reading their Facebook page, the Angels Without Wings 2015 charity ball has so far raised over £54,000!
