60th birthday party - The Fleece Inn
Having never before DJ’d at this venue, we were delighted to be invited to provide music and lights at The Fleece Inn (Bretforton, Nr Evesham) for Julia McGinn’s 60th birthday party. Despite storm Desmond doing it’s best to blow us from the road and an extended tour of Bretforton (lost), we arrived at The Fleece Inn in plenty of time, to be greeted warmly by Jean and shown to their stunning mediaeval thatched barn function suite.
This really is a beautiful/unique function room and ideally suited to small intimate parties for less than 100 guests (perhaps less). I learned from Jean that their thatched barn is very popular as a ‘complete’ wedding venue, where couples can conduct their civil ceremony in rustic style, with wedding, wedding breakfast and wedding reception all under one very charming roof.
I digress! We were set-up by 6.30pm and in full swing with a background music set playing from 7pm and what a pleasure to be asked to play a mix of Glenn Miller, Dean Martin, Jazz and Swing. This has to have been one of the nicest birthday party DJ gigs that we have had the pleasure of attending. The room was overflowing with many years of friendship, laughter, love and sentiment. Geoff gave a beautiful and fun-filled speech that had this 15th century (National Trust) building straining with sore ribs and then followed ‘the crack’ (as Julia so rightly put it), a term of endearment from her Irish roots. And indeed it was just that, with everyone on their feet, dancing the remainder of the night away to so many great hits from the 1950’s through to the 1980’s. My personal favourites were Red light spells danger by Billy Ocean and In the mood by Glenn Miller. What a great dance floor, so many smiles, so much energy and a totally outstanding 60th birthday party. We would have happily DJ’d all night long.
